1. When is the Essex County Resource Center and Reference Library open?

  • The Resource Center is open by appointment from Monday to Friday, from 10 am to 4 pm.
  • To make an appointment call 973-621-7958, or e-mail resource@rsbd.essexcountynj.org
  • The Resource Center is closed on County Holidays.
  • The Hall of Records and RCRL is Accessible to wheelchairs through the Jurors Entrance 

3. Where can I park?

  • Parking is available in the Essex County Jurors/Visitors parking lot on South Orange Avenue for a fee.
  • There is also free and metered street parking available in the vicinity.

4. Who can use the Resource Center?

  • The Resource Center is intended for use by start-up and existing small, minority or woman-owned businesses.
  • The Essex County Resource Center and Reference Library shall not be held responsible for injury to any persons or loss of damage to personal property in the use of the premises.

5. Are there any restrictions in using the Resource Center?

  • No food or drink is permitted in the Resource Center.
  • No smoking is permitted in the Resource Center or Hall of Records.
  • No audible music is permitted in the Resource Center. If you wish to listen to music while researching or writing, you must use headphones.
  • No software programs can be loaded onto the Resource Center Personal Computers (PCs).
  • No software programs found on the Resource Center PCs can be copied to CD, DVD, or any other device.
  • Cell phone use is restricted for telephone calls. For the sake of other patrons, we request you step into the hallway to make or receive calls.
  • We request muting or putting your cell phone on vibrate while using the Resource Center.

6. Can I have meetings in the Resource Center?

 

  • Yes, you can reserve the Resource Center for meetings at no cost. To make reservations, call (973-621-7958) or e-mail, resource@rsbd.essexcountynj.org
  • You will receive a confirmation within 48 hours.
  • It is recommended you seek a reservation at least 2 weeks in advance but no more than 2 months in advance.
  • The room can comfortably accommodate up to eight people.

  • The Small Business Development and Affirmative Action Department has the right to revoke use of the Resource Center for use violations.

7. May I borrow items from the Resource Center?

  • The Resource Center is not a lending library. You are welcome to come to the Resource Center and use its collections of books, newspapers, magazines, and databases.
  • To reserve a book, you can contact the Resource Center via e-mail at resource@rsbd.essexcountynj.org; or telephone at 973-621-4457.
  • You may also search the Resource Center collection remotely and reserve book(s) for use in the Resource Center.  Click here to search the online catalog.

9. Are there databases available at the Resource Center?

Yes, the Resource Center has several databases available for use. This link will take you to a list of the Business Databases Available.

10. If I need help researching a topic can the Resource Center help me?

  • Yes, the Resource Center accepts research questions. Please send them to resource@rsbd.essexcountynj.org.
  • A response will be returned to you within 48 hours.
  • You may also telephone and discuss your research needs with the Resource Center staff by calling 973-621-7958.

11. Are there computers in the Resource Center I can use?

  • Yes, the Resource Center is equipped with three (3) Personal Computers (PCs) loaded with the latest business software including Microsoft® Word, Microsoft® Excel, Microsoft® PowerPoint, Microsoft® Access, and QuickBooks.
  • The computers have Internet connectivity.

12. Can I print documents from the Resource Center’s Personal Computers (PCs)?

  • Yes, the Resource Center computers are connected to an ink-jet printer for your convenience.
  • We do limit the number of pages for printing to 10 per person.
  • We recommend if more pages are to be printed that you either e-mail the document to yourself and print it later at your own convenience or make note of the URL, if appropriate, and conduct the search again and print when you need later at your own convenience.

13. May I use my laptop in the Resource Center?

Yes, you are welcome to bring and use your own laptop or tablet in the Resource Center.

14. Can I connect to the Internet when I use my laptop or tablet in the Resource Center?

Yes, the Resource Center provides wireless Internet connectivity for use with laptops, tablets, or smartphones.
